This book gave insights and time saving experiene!

I enjoyed this book's insights into the world of Pro and Amerature bicycle racing. This book is wonderful for someone who wants to improve their cycling beyond just riding. Connie and Davis share their numerous facinating experiences that can save you valuable time by not having to learn them the hard way. I especially enjoyed the chapter on junior racing, because I am one.

Good Training Manual

I am new to road cycling, and this book provides a good set of training plans for me. It would also be useful for a more advanced cyclist. Also, I like that the writers go back to basics, such as form, etc. A lot of people assume that they just get on a bike and ride, but as a runner who has had injuries in the past, form is very critical even in a simple sport.

The writing can be a little dry and clinical. I would have like to seen a little more info on common cycling injuries and how to handle. If you have ever read The Complete Idiot's Guide for Jogging and Running, Bill Rodgers does a great job in explaining common injuries to that sport and which ones are safe to contine training through, when to rest, how to take care of simple injuries, and when to see a doctor.

Also, if you are looking at new equipment, this book provides some timeless principles in selecting frame (geomoetry), components, etc. However, you will probably want something more up-to-date if you are looking for assistance with the latest products. This book was written in 1992.

I originally bought this book when it came out in 1992 after Bicycling Magazine had a blurb about it. It was Davis Phinney and Connie Carpenter telling you how to race- how could you pass it up? The book covers a lot subject matter and doesn't go very deep into any particular area, but as a quick all-in-one reference to get you moving in the right direction, it does well. Some of it reads like stereo instructions, but you don't need or want Hemingway's prose to learn bike fitting techniques or high speed cornering- just information-packed, step by step instruction. The bad part about this book is that it's dated. It's 20+ years old now and the information is based on 80s and very early 90s technology, so there is no mention of power meters, GPS technology, computers, or anything internet-based, heart rate is addressed, but not like it would be if the book were published today. So take it for what it is (a cycling book that was cutting edge, but now retro).

Book is in Arabic - only summary is in English

The book includes an 80 page summary in English of the book, which is in Arabic. While Amazon.com description states that the summary is in English, it does not state that the bulk of the book is in Arabic.

While the Introduction and Summary are interesting, the English summary is mainly about personalities and very little about doctrines of the Yamani successors of the Fatimids.

I give it 5 stars for the translation but cannot rate the book overall. Because rating is required, I give it a 3.

I have been looking for this precious book (Uyoun Al-Akhbar V.7) for long time & I am really glad that I found it. Moreover, I am still searching for V. I, II, & III of the same book since I already have now the last 4 volumes i.e. 4-7.

Clear and concise summary.

Very clear and concise summary of the big Robbins. I often read it first before reading big Robbins so that I have a better idea of what I'm diving into. 4 stars because it is a pocket edition meaning the pages are very narrow and the spine is tight. That makes reading it a little frustrating because it's always trying to close itself unless you break the spine. I'm going to have it spiral bound but the margins are narrow so it's a risk. I wish the publisher would release a spiral option -that would earn 5 stars.

Excellent resource for survivors of trauma and therapists

My interest in reading this book stems from the psychotherapeutic work I am currently doing (as a client, working with a psychotherapist) to remember my own childhood trauma and learn how to rework these memories into clear consciousness and healthier emotional responses. I have just begun this work and, as is my tendency, I went to Amazon to see what was out there that I could read to educate myself about what trauma is and, most importantly, how to heal it.

I highly recommend this book for both survivors of trauma and the mental health professionals who work with them.

I easily read this book during a long weekend. The text, although written by a mental health professional, is quite accessible even to the layperson, and has a number of examples throughout that are used to illustrate the author's points.

The book itself is divided into two main sections: Theory and Practice. Both are important to understanding the current ways we comprehend and treat trauma, based on the latest advances in the neurosciences that allow us to know better our own minds. Much of Rothschild's work hinges on the ways that the mind-body-emotions work together in experiencing, comprehending, and even storing in memory trauma that we experience. This is important, because the practice/treatment section of the book is also based on the same mind-body-emotions connection. So you must to some extent accept the mind-body-emotions framework to see the value of this book.

I do accept this framework, although not exclusively or primarily.

The second half of the book is equally rich and helpful, including a number of body-based (somatic) tools and techniques that anyone can use to begin to manage responses to trauma (and they are numerous and frequently very subtle) and then slowly start to examine the original sources of that trauma. Besides being based on or in the body, many of these techniques are also cognitive-behavioral in nature, so one must be willing to accept that set of theory as well.

Rothschild also goes into some detail about what somatic techniques can work immediately in the course of a therapy session, and these techniques could just as easily be used by the therapist as by the client. Since my therapist does not work much with somatic or cognitive behavioral techniques, I have asked that we do so, using some of the techniques in this book. (Yes, you can tell your therapist what will or might work best for you in the context of your therapy.) Equally helpful and insightful are sections that focus specifically on the interpersonal relationship clients have with their therapists in the context of therapy, a little discussed topic among professionals and never discussed among clients who often don't know what to expect during the course of therapy.

All in all, a good source of information for someone who is ready to face trauma in his/her life and wants some helpful tools for this journey.

After 26 years of thinking, "I should be over it", I now know its part of my body, not just my brain. I remember yelling out loud, THATS IT, and thinking I felt better immediately. I wasn't a loser, basket case mental job, but "my body remembers". I gave the book to my therapist, hoping she can help others. I actually contacted author to thank her, and she has a new book in the process. Thank you, Babette.........buy it, or I will let you borrow it:)

Wonderful Sweet Romance by Dinah McLeod

This was a lovely sweet romance. A strong alpha cowboy with old fashioned ideals and a sweet young lady on her own. Their feelings and emotions are are delved into and a well developed storyline make for a wonderful story. There is an abusive ex, romance, spanking and sweet sex. I received an Advanced Reader Copy for an honest review.

COLTON AND SCARLETT

I enjoyed this well-told story of two people, a 30-year old rodeo cowboy, Colton, and a 19-year old proud but down on her luck waitress, Scarlett. Colton has been in the rodeo scene for many years, he is a winner, but his life has never had that one special woman, just lots of warm-bodied-one-night stands. Scarlett is trying to just survive in the world, never knew her Dad, lost her Mom and is on her own after a break-up with a user-looser boyfriend, Wade. From the time Colton and Scarlett meet with a mishap at the rodeo, they are drawn together by a need or desire that allows his dominance and her submission to be explored. All of Scarlett’s life she has craved that special desire for the love and protection of a Daddy. Colton knows from her petite and pixie size she is different and his protective side comes out, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t know when she needs correction. The chemistry between these two is explosive. The dialog and interaction are raw, emotional, edgy and honest. The punishments are all justly deserved and include spanking, humiliation, anal play, mouth soaping, and enema. The overall dynamics in this relationship requires honesty and respect. Colton proves to be Scarlett’s knight in shining armor, riding into her rescue and protecting her from the dragons of the world. Swapan Basu has over 35 years international experience in power, offshore & process plants Instrumentation & Control Engineering. He has a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics &Telecommunication Engineering from B.E. College (Calcutta University), India and a Masters from BITS Pilani, India in Project Engineering. Since 1979 he has practiced Instrumentation & Controls mainly in Power, Cement and Offshore drilling plants. He has experience in design as well as commissioning engineering jobs for instrumentation. Basu is the author of Power Plant Instrumentation and Control Handbook and currently leads a team of engineers at Systems and Control, Kolkata, India on various international projects.

Ajay Kumar Debnath is Chief Executive, Systems and Controls, Control and Instrumentation Engineering and Consulting Kolkata, India. He has practiced both electrical and C&I system in power plants and textile and fertilizer plants. He has over 43 years of experience and has worked in India, France, and the United States in fossil fuel power plants from 30 MW up to 660 MW Supercritical Power Plants and co-generation as well as in combined cycle plants with gas, bagasse, and tar as fuel.

The best book about the hardware of neurotechnology.

Once a month we get a book on somebody else's view of the mind, the brain, or both.
Instead of more theory, Images Of Mind describes the machinery neuroscientists use to take all the pictures that have sparked all the theories about how the brain works. Complete with lush illustrations and lucid descriptions, Images takes the reader on a historical tour of the devices scientists have used to "watch" the mind work. From EEGs to PET scanners, Raichle and Posner describe how neurotechnological devices work and what they measure.
The writing is direct and elegant, meant for the pro and the layperson.

Upbeat, but oddly organized and a little unclear

This is an enthusiastically written and nicely illustrated book, but the order of presentation is strange, possibly a result of bad editing. You might find it helpful to skip straight to pages 63-66 and study the introductory material that appears, for some reason, a quarter of the way through the text. It explains how the PET scanning technique works. The book nods at other technologies that produce and/or record signals from the brain, including MRI and electroencephalography, but it is basically a book about PET. The acronym stands for Positron Emission Tomography.
PET scanning is a low resolution technique that produces a computed picture of oxygen uptake by tissues in the brain. The experimental idea is to get the brain of a human experimental volunteer to do something - recite the multiplication tables, say - and then try to notice whether and how the given project changes the relative oxygen demand of brain tissue in various regions of the brain.
The hope would be to identify local volumes of brain tissue which are associated with and thus perhaps even perform some basic psychological function. In practice, the brain obligingly lights up here and there - presumably consuming oxygen in order to energize its thinking.
From the explanations given in the book, it appears that the PET scanned pictures, which are quite beautiful, are thought to reflect heightened metabolic activity in the nerves of the brain, and only in the nerves. The book speaks often about functional brain "modules" and "assemblages of nerves." It is not clear to me, from the text, just how the scanner distinguishes between the nerves and all the other types of tissue in the brain. The glia, for example, outnumber the nerve cells about 9 to 1 in the brain, and these cells breathe oxygen too. In other words it is not clear, from the book, how the scanner somehow selectively singles out nerve cells and snaps their picture.
And maybe it doesn't. I was left wondering what a PET scan of some other complex organ, such as the liver, looks like. The PET technique may just be fine, brilliant in fact, but if it is, then maybe it deserves a clearer explanation that I could find in here.

Very interesting and intriguing book to read. Information on what scientists are learning about the brain and shows the outcome on some brain scans. I know it sounds boring to some but i find it fascinating.

The literature about visualization has become increasingly large in the past decade or so. Few is the author of some of the most important books about it, such as 'Show Me the Numbers', 'Now I See It', and 'Information Dashboard Design'. Great intro to visual analytics sensemaking & thinking clearly

This book offers a clear case for data visualization with believable business examples that show how to find signals in noisy data. The admirable clarity of Stephen Few’s writing tells lucid stories of how to look at data so as to produce actionable insights. Few is fearless in condemning big data excesses such as those who claim that “more [data] trumps better”, which Few labels as “an ignorant claim.” Few counters the big data pressures for volume, velocity, and variety (3Vs) by celebrating the virtues of small, slow, and sure (3Ss). The remarkable aspect of this book is that it provides a solid course in statistics, but it replaces mathematical formulas with visually compelling examples. It deals with means, medians, distributions, and correlations for numeric data and also includes spatial data with well-crafted maps. I’m pleased that this book also covers advanced visualizations such as treemaps, parallel coordinates, and coordinated displays with highlighting and filtering. It closes with ample references and a personal moral perspective about seeing the world more clearly.

This book is a most excellent way of learning how to find, communicate, and use information. If you need these skills and you don't have time to read a pile of textbooks, this is a good place to start.

Data analysis is taught anywhere, but data synthesis is a much rarer skill. With Signal we have a resource that covers both of these angles, is easy to use, and comprehensive in coverage. This is an excellent standalone guide but would also be a great overview to the subject prior to deeper studies.

Amazing dark series

With so many ups and downs, twists and turns, there is so much to love about this series! I love the characters, the struggles they deal with and how they deal with them. It is an amazingly heartfelt story, with all the darkness you could ask for! I for one love darkness in a story. Clarissa Wild has quickly become one of my favorite authors, reaching number 3 on my list!

Love this series excellent combination between suspense- and omance

Excellent way to start a series. I think it's fair to say that this 80 pages of dark erotic romance are a mind f*ck, with all the mystery and intrigued involved in it. And the ways it ends really leaves you wanting more... I'm ready for Snare, let the roller-coaster begins....

--------Book 1--------
This story is so twisted that you would not which way you are going. It's really a mind f*ck; what's real and what is perceived as real??, would be a question you would ask all through the story.

This story was just addictive. I couldn't put down. I think I lost all my nails with this one. At times it was seductive, funny, sexy, erotic, scary, disgusting, dirty and really really dark, but I couldn't stop reading. I just had to know what would happen next.

I think they aren't the only ones that are crazy because I shouldn't of liked it, but I couldn't help but love it!!But I am so intrigued that I can’t wait for more.

--------Book 2--------
Much of the questions that I had with Snare were answer with this one. I really like how we see them change/develop their character and themselves with the time and all the things that happen to them.

Lilith and Sebastian have a realness in them that calls to me and I enjoy very much. Can't wait to see what happens next with these two and learn what happens all those months.

WOW, I'm speechless!!

If you think that Seize was a mind-fuck, you would change your mind once you read Scorch. Ashley story in my opinion was the most complex story in this series. This girl is fearless, and she would get what she wants (revenge) no matter the cost.

The way the book intertwine with Mr.X is phenomenal (If you hadn't read Mr. X, I highly recommend you do so prior reading this book). Clarissa Wild have the ability to tell this story using past/present time flawlessly without a hitch and that something not all author can do right, and believe me I check. I was continuously going back to Seize and Mr. X to check dates.

This book made cringe, laugh and it gave goosebumps. Its really a great erotic thriller story, who would take your mind to all kind of different places trying to guest and put all pieces in the puzzle the right way. Its goes without saying that I loved this series and can wait for more from this Author.

If you haven't read this author then you are seriously missing out!! These books will do things to you that you won't want to stop! I'm a huge fan of this author and seriously as soon as you read Seek you will be to! So get this boxed set and Killer too because seriously you won't want to put down these deliciously wickedly naughty books!!
