This book starts off different to the first two, Zeraphina has never been so vulnerable and you kind of just want to give her a hug. Her life spirals out of control fast now Rodden isn't in it and you really feel for her. ( I find this very realistic...Especially considering how Blood Storm ended ) Even her pets abandon her, feeling neglected themselves, because she is so heartbroken! Her family life is messed up. Things get flipped upside down very fast when I didn't expect it to and vulnerable as she is she goes on another journey of sorts, and another new character appears who I didn't expect to find loveable at all but I did eventually! Anyway there is a part in the book where fables were shared by the campire and I was so locked to hearing these stories I was disappointed when that part seemed cut short, ( I love fables ) but I got over it when things took YET another turn! This books pace is not as fast as the others but there are eye-boggling plot twists that made me gasp...I just did not see them coming! Anyway that's what I love about reading, and what I want in books I read so I give this 5 stars. Ahhh I do wish it was longer though! Page wise it's long enough but I just could have devoured another 100 pages quite happily ( Or a fourth book lol ) but I guess that would have slowed the pace down and that's one of the things that makes this series so addictive! ....Really glad to see Griffin and leap again lol. They are so life in these Lharmell books. And there was a couple of spots where tears shed by myself as though they didn't feature as much in Blood Queen as the other books, when they did the moments were very touching! Bit sad it's over! Arghhhhh have to read all 3 again ..Or get meself some laudanum lol. Yes I said meself.

A surprisingly satisfying end to the series
By Michelle
It did take me a while to get back into the swing of the story and catch up with where we had been left hanging.

Blood Storm left us with Zeraphina alone and Rodden lost in their effort to sabotage the last Turning. Zeraphina has returned home to her mother in order to wallow, and in the absence of anywhere else to go really. She is trying to avoid being married off to the odious Prince Folsum, as well as avoiding life completely. Laudanum has become her chosen vice and her method of surviving the days, not only does it dull her pain but it dulls all of her senses and takes away much of what makes her Zeraphina.

Early on Zeraphina finds herself caught up in an accident and on fleeing the castle she finds herself kidnapped by a harming to be taken to Lharmell. Blood Queen focuses on the journey into Lharmell as a captive and what happens once she arrives.

Blood Queen is written with the same wit and pace of the early books and I would love to say with the same strong heroine we came to love but the Zeraphina of Blood Song and Blood Storm is nowhere to be found until close to the halfway point. I enjoyed the pacing and the flow and the storyline was unique and unpredictable in the way I grew to love in the earlier volumes.
