About the Author
Tami Duncan is a mom of two kids, one who was diagnosed with autism and Lyme disease. When she found out that she and her son both had Lyme disease, she started a non-profit foundation, which provided support and education for families and physicians. She also co-authored a book called The Lyme-Autism Connection with Bryan Rosner. During her twelve-year journey through autism, biomedical interventions, therapies and Lyme disease she awakened to her own spiritual gifts, realizing that when she integrated energy healing and spiritual practices into her treatment for herself and her son, big things happened. She dove in headfirst and became a student of the Universe and trained in Reiki, Vibrational Healing, Shamanic Techniques, Multi-Dimensional Frequencies, Garcia Innergetics, Mediumship, Channeling, Essential Oils, Flower Essences, Telepathic Communication, Innerwise, Holographic Healing, and many more techniques given to her through spiritual guidance. She considers herself both a student and a teacher. Tami has a thriving business called Epiphany Healing Arts, in which she helps families with children diagnosed with autism in numerous ways. She offers various online classes and workshops, in addition to doing private phone sessions with parents to get messages from their child that she receives telepathically. This book is a must read for all parents who have a child on the autism spectrum!! Tami does a spectacular job outlining how to go about not only helping your child with autism, but also your whole family in the process. A fresh perspective on autism and the families affected by it

This is a lovely book that presents a perspective on children with autism that may be surprising for many (hint: they are probably not suffering as much as it may seem). Tami Duncan's remarkable journey from a mom suffering from Lyme to a Reiki Master able to communicate telepathically with nonverbal children is fascinating, but she includes a wealth of practical information and suggestions as well to help parents better understand how to think about, understand, and help their kids.

This book shares a timely and most important message. Autistic children are not "broken". They have come to serve as an impetus for change and reform on all levels. They have amazing gifts to share to those that are willing to look beyond the labels, and truly understand. Tami shares her insights from the children in a way that is easy to digest. It's like reading the diary of a friend; personable and relatable.

It's clear from reading this memoir by folksinger and social activist Richie Havens that this is one '60s survivor who hasn't become jaded. They Can't Hide Us Anymore (the title comes from a remark Havens made when he opened the Woodstock festival) traces Havens's journey from Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant district (where his musical skills aided him in staving off unwanted gang attention) to Greenwich Village at the cusp of the early-'60s folk boom. There, the positive-thinking artist/gadfly/aspiring entertainer crossed paths with everyone from Bob Dylan to Wilt Chamberlain. Then it was on to Woodstock and international (if fairly fleeting) fame. As befits an unapologetic counterculture adherent, Havens's memoir/life guide doesn't adhere to a tight structure. One minute he's offering a hasty guitar lesson, the next he's making passing reference to an encounter with the ghost of Aaron Burr at New York's Cafe Bizarre. He devotes as many words to unknown pals who've made a positive impression on him as he does to encounters with the Beatles and Elvis Presley. Some may find the fanciful flow of Havens's narrative disconcerting, but it's clearly the way the man has lived his life. The first time Havens played a "real" coffeehouse in Greenwich Village, he credited the best song in his repertoire to an unknown folksinger named Gene Michaels. Afterward, a young man came up to him in tears, congratulating him on his beautiful rendition of "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall." The tearful young man, it turned out, was Bob Dylan. Ever since he launched his career in Greenwich Village in the '60s, African-American/Native American folksinger Havens (a native Brooklynite) has assumed the role of the big-hearted ally of the underdog. It should come as little surprise, therefore, that much of his autobiography trumpets the talents of artists such as Fred Neil, the little-known singer/songwriter who scored his only hit with "Everybody's Talkin' at Me," penned for the film Midnight Cowboy. The tendency to focus on the obscure typifies the bookAand Havens, too. He denies any regrets that the highlight of his career came earlyAwhen he opened Woodstock in 1969Aclaiming that money and fame are secondary to him. Some readers may lament the absence of superstar gossip, particularly about Dylan, but these reminiscences, mostly of the '60s scene, steer clear of such things. He fondly remembers his heady Village days, describing endless all-night hootenannies and song-swapping sessions. Guitarists will especially appreciate the detailed description, with accompanying photographs, of Havens's unique open-tuning barre-chord method of playing. This is a generous book by an undeniably generous spirit.

In the collections of music fans of a certain age, albums by Jimi Hendrix often sit next to those by Richie Havens. While Havens lacks the incendiary force that propelled Hendrix into rock'n'roll divinity, his blending of several musical styles, his social activism, and his genuine sense of humanity have made him an important cultural touchstone. In this memoir, he takes us from Greenwich Village, where he learned his chops, to the historic 1965 Newport Folk Festival and to Woodstock, where he played for hours while other acts struggled through the fans to reach the stage. His recollections of brilliant but forgotten singer/songwriters may lead readers to search out the music that mattered, and his memories of the doomed victims of "show business disease," like Hendrix and Janis Joplin, make us realize how lucky we are to have someone still with us to tell the tale. Recommended for all public libraries.

Havens is a Master!!!

I've been a long time fan of Richie Havens and his music but never realized his genius in writing. Keep a computer or ipad nearby to read more on all the references to places, things and names as he teases your appetite to learn more. If you lived in the 60's, and 70's you'll love finding out the "rest of the story" as he grew up in the Village and became friends with the most unlikely artists. If you have been a Havens fan, read the book. You'll love him even more if that's possible.

Meeting Richie Havens at the Cellar Door

I was Richie's guest at the Cellar Door,years ago. He sat at my table during the intermission. We spent almost 15 minutes talking about ways one could attain spiritual enlightment if one wanted to know God badly enough. He knew I was on the devotional path in this lifetime. Also included are several virtually unknown works by Barks which have not previously been collected anywhere. Four of the stories in this book appear in restored versions which are intended to showcase them as Barks originally intended for them to be seen. All of the stories are sourced from high quality masters except for three for which there are no known surviving masters. As collected in this book, newly colored and sourced from original masters, the stories look much better in this book than in previous printings. The 26 Barney Bear and Benny Burro stories, the bulk of Barks' non-Disney work, are in print in the USA in another book, The Carl Barks Big Book of Barney Bear; however, unfortunately, original masters were not used for their reproduction. The Unavailable Carl Barks also includes a comprehensive index to all of Carl Barks' non-Disney comics, and other introductory, historical, and background articles, totaling about 40 pages. Every story that Carl Barks wrote or drew featuring Disney characters during his career as a comic book creator has been reprinted, often many times, in comic books and albums and books. The Disney work is the most important of Barks' work, but Barks also wrote and/or drew 36 other comic book stories featuring non-Disney characters between 1943 and 1953; these have been less-well served in reprinting and are much less well-known. They are generally comparable in quality to the average of the Donald Duck work he was doing at the same time. A few of them are quite creative and delightful, and stand well with the best short story work he was doing at the time. Most of them have been out-of-print since their publication decades ago in comic books. This book is intended to remedy that situation.

About the Author
Kim Weston is a long time Barks fan and scholar who has contributed to Mike Barrier's magazine, Funnyworld, as well as the Barks Bibliography, and the book, Carl Barks and the Art of the Comic Book.  He was a contributor to the Celestial Arts book, Uncle Scrooge McDuck:  His Life and Times, and to Another Rainbow's Carl Barks Library.  He has contributed Barks and Disney information to the Overstreet Price Guide.  He is a contributor to Fantagraphics Books' ongoing series of The Complete Carl Barks Disney Library.  And he scripted The Ultimate Barks Collector gag page drawn by Walter Simonson.  Recently he has been contributing to The Carl Barks Fan Club Pictorial and he has also written occasionally on Barks' work for the past 45+ years, contributing to Barks and Disney scholarship mostly for a small audience in an Amateur Press Alliance.  That is where he commissioned Jack L. Chalker to write the article which was first published in that Amateur Press Alliance and which was later expanded to become Chalker's book, An Informal Biography of Scrooge McDuck.  That work was one of the influences that later inspired Don Rosa to do his own comic book series, the well-loved Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck.   He authored the recently published The Carl Barks Index: A Concordance of the Comics of Carl Barks. This time period and these books contain a majority of Barks’ very best work and includes the time period when Barks is generally considered to been at his peak of creativity, productivity, and quality of writing and drawing.

An absolute treasure for Carl Barks fans!

Apart from all the Disney work that Carl Barks did, he also wrote and/or drew 36 other comic book stories. Of them, 26 are available in the book "The Carl Barks Big Book of Barney Bear" by Craig Yoe, which contains versions scanned from the original comic books. This book by Kim Weston contains the other 10, as well as restored versions of two of the 26 in Yoe's book. All of them, except for three, are sourced from high quality masters and are beautifully colored, and look really wonderful! The other three are scanned from the original comic books. There are also short essays and restoration notes as well as a complete index to the Carl Barks' non-Disney comic books. Most of the stories in this book are from the years 1943-1945. In comparison, the Donald Duck story "Frozen Gold" was drawn in 1944 and "The Ghost of the Grotto" in 1947. I am personally very fond of the early work of Barks, and having all these non-Disney stories from the same era is an absolute treasure!

Barks genius in non-Disney Comics and Stories

As I have said so many times before, Carl Barks never drew or wrote a dud. Before he was the chief chronicler of the Disney Ducks; Western publishing had him doing non-Disney comics and stories. Actually these non-Disney tales are the best these characters ever produced. I remember, as a child, the disappointment I felt when "Barney Bear and Benny Burro" were drawn by someone else. The only really good "Droopy tales" were drawn and scripted by Barks and the best non-Barks Droopy stories were written, if not drawn by Barks. This book collects those non-Disney Barks stories and a few that were only written by Barks. If you like the work of Carl Barks, you'll love this book. Highly recommended.

Oh noo! This is too much on my heart. I hope Violet is ok. I really want her to leave Miguel the hell alone. He keeps running back to Faith so let them be. He sees what he lost out on and it will hurt him even more if Violet moves on with Dom. I hope somebody puts a bullet in Faiths head real quick I'm so over her. I love Hazel. Please come on with part 2.

When is enough, enough already, how many times is Violet going to keep putting up with Miguel bull s***. Please let Dom be there to help her through and let Miguel ass feel what Violet felt, he and faith need to take a long run on a short bridge, yea I'm in my feels about this book man oh man it was sooooo good waiting on the next part :)

It is this holistic vision of Abhinavagupta, based on the Tantras, which makes this work so relevant in our times of fragmented aspects of life and knowledge in search of integration. No doubt, in the view of the Tantra and of Abhinavagupta, language and mantra provide the key. This fascinating book is an important contribution to studies and interpretations on Kashmir Shaivism, its spirituality and philosophy, and on Abhinavagupta in particular.

In many ancient religions the Sun has been accorded a supreme place in the order of divinities. In this connection one only has to recall the Sol Invictus worshipped by the Roman emperors. The ancient Indian tradition also revered the sun as the life-giving force and the symbol of the highest Reality. The commentary by Swami Tattvavidananda Saraswati in this volume comes as an attempt to unravel the power and mystique of the Sun as explained in the Aditya Hridayam, a small canto chapter offering obeisance to the Sun God in Valmiki s Ramayana. The Aditya Hridayam was conveyed by the sage Agastya to Rama before the latter s final victory over Ravana. Swami Tattvavidananda Saraswati is a Sanskrit scholar and a noted teacher of the Vedas and Vedantic literature. He has written several works on Hindu religion and philosophy. This book presents the original Sanskrit mantras of the Aditya Hridayam along with their transliteration and translation into English. The verses are accompanied by detailed notes explaining each concept. About the Author
Bettina Baumer, born in Austria is living and working in Varanasi (India) since 1967 and is a scholar of Sanskrit, Indian philosophy and art with specialization in Shilpashastra and temple architecture of Orissa and above all in Kashmir Shaivism. She has been Director of a research institute on Indian art in Varanasi and coordinator of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Varanasi. Since 1995, she is regularly teaching as visiting Professor at the universities of Vienna, Berne and Salzburg. Her present position is Fellow, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. She has authored five books in German and a number of books and scholarly articles in Sanskrit and English, including three volumes of Kalatattvakosha : A Lexicon of Fundamental Concepts of the Indian Arts edited by her. She became a disciple of Swami Lakshman Joo in 1986 and has been teaching Kashmir Shaivism and its texts for a number of years.

...such riches

Ahhh, to come to this book after years of reading J. Singh's translations, which so carefully and beautifully lay out the complexities of Kashmir Shaivism in the intros, and all the other primary and secondary work (Padoux esp.) on Abhinava I could find! Why, quite simply, it can open up joyful engagement, where before reverence had perhaps reached it's bounds and silence only held.

It is a great book. Buy it for your shelf, knowing it will offer such riches--whether someday soon, or later..

Very heavy read.

This book is about words & letters & the power of such. I had to read it very slowly so as to comprehend the subject matter. Considering it's a book on Trika I did find it a bit off putting with the constant references to the goddess. It is quite obvious that the author is female & I find that this detracts from the non-dualism that Trika is. The author has a degree in Philosophy & so this work is more philosophical as opposed to the experiential process that Trika ultimately is. She does write very well, but as already stated this work is very heady.
It did add a new perspective to my understanding of Trika, but if the reader was new to the topic there would be very little chance of them being able to comprehend this work.
I continue to be amazed at how many authors write on the subject of Trika from a philosophical perspective & yet seem to miss the point that Trika is about the experience & ultimately about transcending the mind & experiencing the "Cosmic Bliss" of the "Self".
All in all, not a waste of time, but I would probably not be inclined to read it a second time.
