About the Author
Milada Broukal has taught English for over thirty years in North America and Europe. She has worked in all areas of the field, including syllabus design, teacher training, classroom teaching, and has been Director of Study of her own school. She is the author of over 30 successful textbooks including the series "Weaving it Together, The Thomson Heinle Test Preparation Assistant" series, and the recently published "Check it Out!" series. A very useful textbook

The What A World series is a collection of interesting stories which uses texts to guide learning. The stories are well-written and level-appropriate, vocabulary is practiced and recycled throughout each unit, and the learning exercises offer speaking and writing opportunities for students. I use Ms. Broukal's books quite often. I would rate this book more highly if difficult vocabulary was repeatedly used throughout the whole book, and more emphasis was placed on targeted grammar forms embedded within the readings, with more grammar exercises to keep in shape.

The events in Itinerant Child run parallel to those in Legacy, and some of the characters do make an appearance. However, this can be read as a stand alone.

The Anarchist And The Outlaw......

This was a 3.5 read for me. I am a Sarah Osborne fan. I love all her previous Freaks MC books. This one is my least favorite. The reason? I simply could not stand Mouse(h), and the story dragged with the back and forth between, we are together and no we are not. All because of Mouse. I loved Nitro. Nitro is different than the other H's in this series. He is truly a great guy. He is tough but also rational. He is a big tough softie. Again, I loved him. Mouse just confused me. She is deathly afraid of Hospitals yet there is no explanation as to why. There is also no mention of whether she overcomes this fear. Mouse is an orphan and a traveller. She is also an Anarchist. She dedicates her life to fighting the cause and rejecting normal civilized environments. I was not convinced. I couldn't stand her. I can appreciate and respect a person who dedicates their life to trying to make this a better world, but I felt she went about it the wrong way. She wasn't very effective and she comes off as judgmental.

As a couple Mouse and Nitro worked. I liked the unique aspect of an outlaw MC guy with a traveller female. Oddly enough they are compatible because they are both rejecting society and its rules. Nitro was all in from the get go with Mouse. Mouse was wishy washy. One minute she is all in. The next she is making an excuse as to why it won't work. Back and forth and back forth it went. Mouse expected so much from Nitro yet she gave him nothing in return. He loved her and he refused to give up. He was awesome. She wasn't. The bulk of the book just dragged because of the back and forth. I was not pleased. Then.......

The last 10% of the book was SIMPLY THE BEST!!!! If this whole book was as good as the last 10%, this would have been an easy 5 star read for me. The last 10% reminded me of why I love this author so much. I thought to myself..."Ahhh here she is again in her glory. This is the kind of writing I so adore by this author". I went from irritated to not wanting the book to end as well as actually liking Mouse. I didn't see that coming.

If you have read the previous novels by this author then you will want to read this one. Nitro goes back to Bay View (not sure if I got that name right) to attend Tiny's funeral. I do not like to think of Tiny's demise. It upsets me. The reader sees the funeral and the goings on through Nitro's eyes. I did enjoy that revisit. There were some editing issues, minor but present. Although I did not enjoy this book as much as I did the previous books, it is still an enjoyable read. Yes, I would recommend.

Why are not more people reading and reviewing this well written book? Yes, I had my issues. That all said, this is a good read. Better than most of the crap that is out there. This author is good. She needs to be promoted because she writes well, has a good story/stories, and can create characters that you wish you had in your daily life. That speaks volumes about her as a writer. Come on people.....Read this book and the ones before it!. Read and review.

Another great Osborne Story!

Sarah Osborne writes compelling characters. The development of her heroes and heroines and the distinct individuality all of them possess continually surprise and engage me. Itinerant Child tells the story of two people highly unlikely to cross paths let alone fall for each other. One - a woman of resolute values and morals who’s a bit uptight and unforgiving standing in the trenches fighting for what she believes. Two – a light-hearted, easy going biker who smiles a lot, loves immediately, and takes life one day at a time. As usual, Osbornes writing expertly tells this very character-centric story.

There’s a lot of back forth with Mouse’s feelings from beginning to end and it was a story device that frustrated me in an appealing way. Her tendency to act first, think later was always justified and understandable as her inner monologues and up-front attitude were based in total honesty. Her life was very controlled in the environment of her choosing. Nitro’s feelings were abrupt and unyielding. Not your typical alpha biker, he saw something in Mouse he had never seen any other woman before. The two of them together were smart, compassionate, and a total disaster because of the conflicting feelings their hold on each other brought. It was a very interesting character dynamic Osborne created and made for fun reading time.

The plot of the story sometimes got lost in the back and forth nature of Nitro and Mouse’s romance. It at times became tedious for me however the love story always kept me captivated. Meeting the secondary characters who played integral parts in each of their lives enhanced the story when the plot seems to get lost.

Bikers and the women they love written by Freak Circle Press authors are my most favorite kind of love stories. Also, with cameos from past characters that I love we get a different perspective on the events of Sarah’s previous Freak books. With this one, Sarah Osborne found a way to brilliantly hook two people to each other you would never think could find love with the other. Thanks to her writing and the romance of the characters Itinerant Child was a very enjoyable romance.

5 Empowering Stars

Here are my Nitro and Mouse:

Nitro (35) used to live in England until his father moved them to states and that where he became Freaks. My description of him is def a charmer.

“I'm a charming, good looking, well endowed twat. Get it right, punk.”

“I love you, punk.”

She completed him. She was the final piece in his jigsaw. With her, there was no need for bravado, no reason to hide any weakness, because when he was with her, he was invincible.

Mouse (28) is girl who fought for what she believes in and who loves to protest. She don't give up easily and the word stubborn is an understatement. Also, she got a mean right hook. So don't over step her boundaries Nitro ;).

There was an exquisite, fleeting moment as Mouse's lips parted, and.... she pulled away, and buried her fist in his face.

Mouse sat and rested her hand on his thigh. “What's on your mind, biker boy?” Nitro laughed and planted a kiss on her temple. “Not much. We okay?” “Yeah.” She leaned against him and watched as a cormorant dived down under the waves.

“You love me.” She did. “Yeah, but you bullied me into it. "I love you, biker boy.”

These two bump into when Nitro got an assignment from his prez to go to local farm to take over the land but it was currently occupied by travelers. But Nitro don't believe in hurting kids or women so left his brother to talk to them. And of course one of the travelers was Mouse and she intends to stop them by destroying their bikes.

I love this book cause of the suspense, push and pull of these characters. Also, I love all the characters that were mentioned in the books. I highly recommend this book and it's definitely up there with her other books.

Thinking Man's Collection of Jokes

I found this book when I was on a business trip and needed some entertainment in the evening. Most of the jokes and anecdotes lead to a good chuckle and some are hilarious. What appeals to me most about this book is the commentary that Asimov supplies in the way of background to each piece of humor.

The ONLY humor compilation I've ever seen in which I laughed at almost all of the jokes. Asimov's commentaries are equally entertaining. Much better than the sequel, "Asimov Laughs Again."

Gut Wrenching Yet Hopeful

I chose to read the book knowing it was about a mistress and that this author incorporates explicit sex into her stories (Thankfully they can be easily skipped.). Why? Because I had to know what happened to Quinn – does he find true love? Do they find the traitors?

Ianthe’s story made me so sad. Some of the details of her life were upsetting, crude and a little nauseating. The viscount’s demands were disturbing and will probably give me nightmares. I appreciate the rights I have as a woman when I consider what options, or lack thereof, women had in the past. I think it's good to be reminded to be thankful.

Although I would have appreciated something more lighthearted than melancholy, the author’s writing style is intelligent and thoughtful. I feel like she put some of her heart in it and that my time wasn’t wasted.

Reader be warned, this one will get under your skin. Maybe that’s a good thing.

Really likeable hero.

This is the second book in Alice Wallis-Eton's Second Sons series, featuring men of the Scottish Second Dragoons cavalry unit. Known as the Scots Greys, they have never been sent on active duty to the Peninsular Wars and the men of the series are happy to have been given the mission of uncovering a ring of British traitors working as spies for the French in England.

In Book One, THE CRYPTOGRAPHER, Captain Iain McIntyre meets up with Aster Tanner. At first he is suspicious she might be a spy and that would have been such a shame because of their obvious attraction to each other. But the romance had a satisfactory conclusion, although the spy mission is still ongoing in this second book.

23-year-old Quinn Tulloch, the youngest member of this Scots Greys group, finds himself totally infatuated (from afar) with beautiful courtesan Ianthe White. Unfortunately, she may be connected to that spy ring, since her protector is one of the names on the watch list. When the protector dies unexpectedly, the Scots Greys use this opportunity to try to find out more about him and her possible involvement in his affairs.

Tulloch, when gambling, wins 7 days and 7 kisses from her. He moves right in to her "love nest" and tries his hardest to move into her heart also. No sex in the bargain, just her company and one kiss a day for 7 days. Quinn is young, full of enthusiasm for life, and is a kind, caring, and lovely man. Ianthe, who had been seduced and "ruined" at a very young age, is a rather hardened contrast to Quinn. She's had to build a protective shell around her heart to stay sane in the life she leads. All she really wants is to accumulate enough money to get out of London, move into a little cottage of her own and raise horses.

Meanwhile, we have the spy story going on, Ianthe's former protector's perverted business partner trying to take over Ianthe's protection, Ianthe's seducer and "ruiner" back in the picture, and, of course, a subplot about horses. All in all, it's a pleasant read and the characters were well developed.

The problem for me is the been-there, done-that aspect of the plot. That one-kiss-a day-for 7-days has been done many a time. One that stands out is Eloisa James' KISS ME ANNABEL. The courtesan who just wants to be free and independent has been done perhaps even more times. A particularly fine example of this is Cecilia Grant's A GENTLEMAN UNDONE. So no points to Wallis-Eton for the plot. Only points for the characters, especially Quinn.

I am looking forward to trying the stories to come in this series, when they are released. The author's writing ability is encouraging even though not top-notch in this particular book.

The covers of the books in this series are just beautiful! I rarely look at covers...they usually look like 1940's B-movie posters...but these covers are just lovely:)

The first book in this series, THE CRYPTOGRAPHER, was very good and I liked it a lot. I wasn't keen on the third book, THE CONUNDRUM, but I enjoyed this one, THE CYPRIAN. I expected it to be heavy on the spy-hunting, carrying on the theme of the first book, but there was little of that. It was mostly about Ianthe (ee-AN-the) White and the youngest member of the Scots Greys unit, Quinn Tulloch.

This unit had been tasked with finding evidence and bringing to book a number of traitors. Ianthe was the mistress of one man on the list and seems to be an associate of another. She is also a beautiful equestrienne who has had Quinn in a dither as he has watched her ride. Well lucky Quinn. He needs to get close to Ianthe so he plays cards with her. He's a card counter who never loses and he doesn't here either. He wins 7 days, 7 nights and 7 kisses with Ianthe ~ no sex.

During this week Quinn doesn't do a heck of a lot to aid the cause but he's falling in love and is in hog heaven. Ianthe doesn't feel the glow. She was ruined as a young girl, has had a tough time in a tough world. Ten years as a demimondaine have taught her to keep her emotions subdued. She just needs the money to buy a cottage and raise horses but she's at point non plus. (I couldn't resist that one...lol) Okay, she's broke.

Quinn is a sweetheart and he's gradually winning Ianthe's heart. The friend of her former protector is after Ianthe and he's a real snake. And unless Ianthe recalls something salient that was said or written by the two under suspicion, the sleuthing Scots Greys are at a standstill.

Entertaining story. No, as OLT says, there's nothing new under the sun romance-wise, but I enjoyed it. Loved the hero and really liked the heroine...she had a lot of character to have survived her world so well.

And now our four Scot second sons are still hunting the puppet master.
